PRE-ORDER vs BACK-ORDER, What is the difference?

We have just sent out our Black Friday newsletter. An important clarification included in the newsletter is the difference between PRE-ORDER and BACKORDER.

While these terms may appear similar, understanding their definitions is essential for grasping their business implications.

I made this explanation as straightforward as possible.

Pre-order: The product is not yet available in any form (e.g., new or in production).

Backorder: The product was previously available but is temporarily out of stock. Sometimes, newly launched items may sell out before the initial batch arrives. In such cases, we may refer to them as backorder items. Either way, rest assured that your order will ship within 1-2 weeks—faster than most online sellers can manage!

Currently, Sigil Occult Jewelry has listings with a PRE-ORDER option available. When an item sells out, the listing will still accept orders, and a PRE-ORDER button will appear. These are items we usually have in stock but are currently sold out. Pre-ordering will prompt us to restock the item as soon as possible. Otherwise, the listing may remain sold out for an indefinite period until there's a pressing need to restock it because you ordered it. Once an order is placed on these listings, we refer to it as BACKORDER(ed). This means we will fully restock or at least stock the quantity needed to fulfill YOUR order.

We will include the word "BackOrder" in the listing titles to indicate that the items are a permanent part of our inventory but currently sold out. They will be restocked even without any pending orders. If the listings do not have any indication in the title and you click the thumbnail to view the listing and it shows a PRE-ORDER button, this means it's new, in production, and not yet available, OR it's sold out but not getting restocked unless an order is requested. If you place an order on a preorder listing, we will acquire it for you, but the listing will likely remain unstocked until a future date.

In any case, whether the listings say PRE-ORDER or BACKORDER, as a customer, you WILL receive your order. Additionally, keep in mind that some listings that ARE sold out will NOT have an option to order as they are soon to be removed from our inventory and site altogether.

Going forward, if you ever interact with us and we use these terms in our emails and messages, just understand that this is what these differences mean. You will receive what you ordered, regardless. We are always here to assist in any way possible.
